Cozumel Diving from Cancún — Two Drift Dives on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef

Jacques Cousteau put Cozumel on the map, and the reason still holds: the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef runs the length of the island’s western coast, dropping into walls that fall hundreds of meters into blue water. A steady, predictable current carries you along the reef so you barely have to swim — this is drift diving at its most effortless, with visibility that regularly exceeds 30 meters.

Vision Oceanos runs this as a full-day trip from Cancún: two dives across the island’s signature sites, on a local Cozumel dive boat, with an SSI certified guide and everything handled from door to door.

What’s Included

  • 2 guided dives on the Cozumel reef
  • Full scuba equipment — BCD, regulator, mask, fins
  • Tanks and weights
  • Local dive boat in Cozumel
  • Ferry Playa del Carmen ↔ Cozumel, round trip
  • Local transportation in Cozumel
  • Cozumel marine park fee
  • Water and snacks on board
  • SSI certified dive guide

Full Day Schedule

  • 6:00 AM — Departure from Cancún toward Playa del Carmen
  • 8:00 AM — Ferry to Cozumel, approximately 45 minutes
  • 9:00 AM — Dive 1, briefing and entry at the first site
  • 11:00 AM — Dive 2, second site with surface interval on the boat
  • 1:30 PM — Lunch break in Cozumel with time to explore the town
  • 5:00 PM — Ferry back to Playa del Carmen, returning to Cancún around 6:00 PM

The Sites

Palancar and Santa Rosa — the signature reefs: massive coral formations, deep canyons and swim-through tunnels, among the most photographed structures in the Caribbean. Eagle rays, hawksbill turtles and Caribbean reef sharks are common sightings along the wall.

Requirements

  • Open Water Diver certification or equivalent — any agency accepted
  • Comfort with drift diving is helpful but not required — your guide manages the profile

Depth and Certification

Cozumel reaches 30 meters, the deepest site in our program and the only location suitable for the SSI Deep Diver specialty certification. If you are working toward Deep Diver, this is where those dives are logged.

Optional Add-On

Private van transfer from Cancún is available for $90 USD if you prefer a direct, private transfer rather than the standard departure.
