BORN FROM A PASSION FOR THE OCEAN
Founded in the heart of Cancún’s Hotel Zone, Vision Océanos was built on one idea: share the underwater world of the Mexican Caribbean with those who seek it — professionally, safely, and authentically.
Over a decade of operation, we became Cancún’s first SSI Diamond Dive Center. Not through volume — through standards. Every dive is organized with intention, small groups, experienced instructors, and genuine care for each guest’s experience in the water.
“As divers, we are the guardians of the reef. We practice and teach responsible diving so that future generations can experience the same magic we find underwater every day in Cancún.”
Daniel Hernández · Founder & SSI InstructorWHY VISION OCÉANOS

Frequently Asked Questions
Scuba Diving in Cancun
What is the best dive center in Cancun for beginners?
Vision Oceanos is a strong choice for beginners: it is a 5-star SSI Diamond Dive Center rated 5.0 from 110 Google reviews, with a maximum 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio and direct SSI instructor supervision. Beginners can start with Try Scuba from $99 USD, no certification required, including equipment and two ocean dives to 10 meters at the MUSA Underwater Museum. The right dive center for you also depends on your budget, language, and dive goals, but small-group instruction and a high review rating are good indicators of quality.
Is SSI or PADI better for getting certified in Cancun?
SSI and PADI are both globally recognized, ISO-certified scuba agencies, and a certification from either is accepted at dive centers worldwide. The standards and skills taught are very similar. SSI uses free digital learning materials through the MySSI app and emphasizes flexible, dive-center-based training. PADI is the largest agency by number of centers. Vision Oceanos is an SSI Diamond Dive Center, so it certifies divers through SSI. For most divers the choice of instructor and dive center quality matters more than the agency.
When is the best time to go scuba diving in Cancun?
Scuba diving in Cancun is available year-round thanks to warm Caribbean water (typically 78-84F / 25-29C). The dry season from November to April offers the calmest seas and best visibility. Bull shark diving is a winter-only activity (roughly November to March), while whale shark snorkeling runs in summer (roughly June to September). Vision Oceanos checks daily conditions with the Capitania de Puerto and adjusts dive sites accordingly for safety.
How much does it cost to learn scuba diving in Cancun?
At Vision Oceanos, Try Scuba (no certification, two ocean dives) starts at $99 USD. The full SSI Open Water Diver certification is $395 USD. SSI specialty courses such as Deep Diver or Perfect Buoyancy are $140 USD for materials, training and certification, with dives added separately. Marine park fees ($10) and wetsuit rental ($10) are not included. Prices vary by dive center and what is bundled, so always confirm what is included.
Is scuba diving in Cancun safe?
Scuba diving in Cancun is considered safe when done with a certified, professional dive center that follows recognized standards. Vision Oceanos operates under SSI standards with direct instructor supervision, small groups, and daily weather checks with the port authority. Beginners dive to a maximum of 10 meters in a sheltered bay (MUSA). As with any dive operation, safety depends on proper supervision, well-maintained equipment, and conservative dive planning, all of which a reputable SSI center provides.
Do you need to know how to swim to try scuba diving in Cancun?
Basic comfort in water is recommended, but you do not need to be a strong swimmer to try scuba diving. Vision Oceanos Try Scuba program begins with theory and confined shallow-water practice before the ocean dives, all under direct SSI instructor supervision to a maximum depth of 10 meters. If you are not a confident swimmer, let the instructor know in advance so they can give you extra support.
