The Cancún Underwater Museum (MUSA): Where Art Meets Conservation
Welcome ,today we are writing a little bit about the sculptures on the Underwater Museum, known as MUSA (Spanish: Museo Subacuático de Arte). As a non-profit organization based in Cancún, Mexico, MUSA’s mission is to seamlessly blend art with environmental conservation.

Art Beneath the Waves
Dive into an underwater world where art and nature coexist. MUSA boasts an impressive collection of 500 sculptures, each one a testament to human creativity and environmental stewardship. These captivating artworks are strategically placed in three distinct galleries, submerged between three and six meters (approximately 9.8 to 19.6 feet) deep in the crystal-clear waters of the Cancún National Marine Park. This unique underwater gallery features contributions from both international and local sculptors, making it a truly global artistic endeavor.
Origins and Purpose
The vision for MUSA The primary objective was clear: to protect the delicate coral reefs in the vicinity. By offering an alternative destination for divers, MUSA helps to alleviate the impact of tourism on the natural reefs, allowing these vital ecosystems to thrive.
The Official Opening
In November 2010, MUSA officially opened its submerged galleries to the public. Since then, visitors have been able to experience the beauty of art while contributing to the preservation of our marine ecosystems. Each dive into MUSA is not just an exploration of art but also a step towards conserving our underwater world.
