The SSI Try Scuba program is designed for anyone curious about diving. You will complete two real ocean dives in the Caribbean — not a pool, not a lagoon. The actual ocean, under direct instructor supervision, to a maximum depth of 10 meters. No prior experience required. Minimum age 10 years.

FIRST-TIME DIVERS
Never been underwater with scuba equipment. Curious what it feels like. Want the real experience before committing to a full certification course.
VACATIONERS WITH LIMITED TIME
In Cancún for a few days and want to experience the Caribbean reef without a multi-day course commitment. Try Scuba is a half-day experience.
FAMILIES
Children from 10 years old can participate. Parents and kids can do Try Scuba together. Each participant has their own instructor time — nobody gets left behind.
PRE-CERTIFICATION EXPERIENCE
Want to test the water before committing to a full course? Try Scuba gives you two real ocean dives so you can decide with confidence whether certification is right for you.

SSI INSTRUCTOR
Dedicated certified instructor for your group. Maximum 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio — often 1:1 or 2:1.
FULL SCUBA EQUIPMENT
BCD, regulator, mask, fins, tanks. Professional-grade, regularly serviced. Nothing to bring except a swimsuit.
BOAT ACCESS
Covered dive boat with shade and storage. Water on board for all divers throughout the experience.
TWO OCEAN DIVES
Two complete Caribbean reef dives — not a pool session, not a demonstration. Real dives in the ocean.
THEORY SESSION
45-minute briefing with your SSI instructor. Clear, focused, no jargon. You will know exactly what to expect before entering the water.
CONFINED WATER PRACTICE
Shallow water skill session before ocean entry. You practice until you are comfortable — not on a timer.
Interested in getting certified? Your Try Scuba dives give you a real sense of what scuba diving feels like before committing to a course. If you decide to continue, the SSI Open Water Diver certification can begin the following day. Ask your instructor at the end of your experience — same-day enrollment is possible.

DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SWIM?
Basic swimming ability is required — you do not need to be an advanced swimmer or comfortable in deep water, but you must be able to swim and be comfortable floating in the ocean. Your instructor will assess comfort level before ocean entry.
HOW DEEP WILL WE GO?
Maximum 10 meters. This is the SSI program limit for Try Scuba. Depth is controlled at all times by your instructor — you will never exceed this without your explicit awareness and agreement.
IS IT SAFE FOR SOMEONE WITH NO EXPERIENCE?
Yes. The Try Scuba program is specifically designed for people with zero prior experience. The confined water practice session ensures you are comfortable with every basic skill before entering the ocean. Your instructor stays with you for both dives — you are never alone underwater.
WILL I GET A CERTIFICATION?
Try Scuba is an introductory experience — you do not receive a scuba certification. If you want a worldwide-recognized certification, that is the SSI Open Water Diver course, which takes 3–4 days and starts at $395 USD. Your instructor can discuss this at the end of your experience.
CAN MY CHILD DO THIS?
Yes — minimum age is 10 years. Children participate under the same instructor supervision as adults, with the same maximum depth limit of 10 meters. A parent or guardian must be present and sign the SSI liability waiver on behalf of minors.
HOW DO I GET TO THE DIVE SHOP?
Taxi or rideshare is convenient from anywhere in the Hotel Zone. R1 and R2 public buses travel along Boulevard Kukulcán; ask to stop at Km 16 near Captain’s Cove. We are at Aquafun Marina, Boulevard Kukulcán Km 16.261. Private van transportation from hotels around Cancún starts at $90 USD, depending on location and availability.
