DIVE THE UNDERWATER MUSEUM
500+ sculptures submerged in the calm waters of Cancún Bay — one of the most unique dive sites on the planet. Open to beginners and certified divers. No current, 10 meters max depth, extraordinary visibility.
MUSA — Museo Subacuático de Arte — is an internationally recognized underwater sculpture park created by artist Jason deCaires Taylor. The installation was designed as an artificial reef to divert tourism pressure from natural coral systems. Since 2009, the sculptures have been colonized by coral, sponge, and marine life — transforming into a living reef habitat. Calm bay location, protected from ocean swell, accessible to any level of diver.
Key facts about MUSA before you dive.
What makes MUSA different from any other dive.
AN ART INSTALLATION THAT BECAME A REEF
Every sculpture at MUSA was designed with deliberate texture and material to encourage coral and invertebrate colonization. Over 15 years underwater, many pieces are now unrecognizable as man-made objects — covered entirely in hard and soft corals, sponges, and encrusting organisms.
Sea turtles rest on the sculptures. Schools of fish use them as shelter. The site functions as a genuine Caribbean reef ecosystem, not just a tourist attraction.
CALM WATER. EXCEPTIONAL VISIBILITY.
Located inside Cancún Bay, MUSA is protected from open ocean conditions. Visibility is consistently 10–15 meters or more. No current, no surge, no thermoclines. The calmest diving in the Cancún area — which is why it works for beginners and makes for exceptional photography.
Two programs, one site — same experience, different path to get there.
FIRST-TIME DIVERS
No certification needed. Follows the SSI Try Scuba program — theory, confined water practice, then two ocean dives at MUSA. Maximum 10m, instructor by your side the entire time.
CERTIFIED DIVERS
Join the guided dive schedule directly. No Try Scuba program needed. You arrive, brief, and dive. OWD or equivalent from any agency accepted.

Everything you need before you show up.
IS THIS SUITABLE FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER DIVED?
Yes. MUSA is one of the best beginner dive sites in Cancún — calm bay, 10 meters max depth, zero current. First-time divers follow the SSI Try Scuba program with a 1:1 instructor ratio in the water.
WHAT MARINE LIFE WILL I SEE?
The sculptures host Caribbean reef fish — angelfish, parrotfish, sergeant majors, wrasse. Sea turtles rest on the statues regularly. Hard and soft corals cover most of the installation. Marine life sightings vary by season and conditions.
CAN I TAKE PHOTOS UNDERWATER?
Yes. If you have an underwater camera or GoPro, bring it. MUSA is an exceptional photography site — calm water, consistent light, and subjects that don’t move. We also offer an Underwater Photo and Video service if you don’t have your own equipment.
HOW DO I GET TO VISION OCEANOS?
Uber is reliable and affordable from anywhere in the Hotel Zone. Route 1 and Route 2 public buses stop directly at Cancún Bay Hotel for under $1 USD. We are at Boulevard Kukulcán Km 3.5 — directions: Open in Maps.
WHAT IF I WANT TO GET CERTIFIED AFTER THIS?
