Cancún sits at the northern tip of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef — the second largest coral reef system in the world. For certified divers, this means access to an extraordinary variety of dive sites within minutes of the shore: shallow reefs, drift dives, tunnels, and hidden local spots that most dive centers never visit.

THE PUNTA CANCÚN REEF LINE
The most productive diving in Cancún runs along the Punta Cancún reef line — a stretch of coral formations inside Cancún Bay offering approximately 10 different dive site options within the same area. Depths along this line average around 16 meters, with moderate current typical of inside-bay diving — ideal for certified divers seeking drift conditions and rich marine life. The current brings nutrients that attract larger species: eagle rays, barracudas, moray eels, and schools of tropical fish are common sightings.
Punta Cancún
A dramatic reef wall with excellent visibility and consistent marine life. Moderate current depending on conditions. One of the most biodiverse sites in the area.
Herradura
Named for its horseshoe-shaped coral formation. Excellent structure for photography. Moray eels and green turtles frequently spotted.
Punta Negra
A darker reef with dramatic coral formations and excellent visibility. Slightly less current than Punta Cancún — accessible for divers building drift confidence.
San Miguel
A classic Cancún reef dive. Healthy coral coverage, abundant fish life, and reliable turtle sightings.
Gran Pin
A larger reef structure with multiple swim-throughs and excellent topography — natural channels between coral heads for an immersive dive.
Túneles
Named for its natural underwater tunnels formed by coral. Certified divers navigate coral archways — unforgettable for anyone with solid buoyancy control.
All sites along the Punta Cancún line are accessed by boat from the marina inside Cancún Bay. Boat transit time is approximately 15–20 minutes.
INSIDE THE BAY — CALMER CONDITIONS
For divers who prefer calmer water with less current, Cancún Bay offers several outstanding sites in the 10 to 13-meter range — shallower, more controlled conditions with equally impressive marine life. The reduced current means more time observing marine life without managing drift — a different diving experience from the outer reef line, equally rewarding.

LOCAL SECRET SPOTS
Vision Oceanos operates sites that most tourist dive centers in Cancún never visit — local knowledge sites known to instructors who have been diving these waters for years.
Chitales
A shallow reef full of life and rarely visited by other dive operations. Exceptional marine biodiversity in calm, clear conditions — sea turtles, tropical fish, and healthy coral throughout. One of our favorite sites for certified divers wanting something off the standard circuit.
Manchones
A longer reef structure known for its size and biodiversity — diverse coral species, abundant fish populations, and frequent turtle encounters. Also home to a small underwater cross that has become a local landmark for divers.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON A FUN DIVE
Check-In
Arrive at our location inside Cancun Bay Hotel, Boulevard Kukulcán Km 3.5. Present your certification card and complete registration.
Boat Departure
Depart by boat to the selected dive site, chosen based on conditions, experience level, and group preference.
Guided Reef Dives
A certified dive guide leads the group throughout. Bottom times average 45–50 minutes per dive depending on depth and air consumption.
Return to Dock
Back at the marina, dives complete.
2 ocean dives, tanks and weights, certified dive guide, boat transportation, and drinking water.
Marine park fee: $10 USD per person. Wetsuit rental: $10 USD, optional.

- Open Water Diver certification or equivalent

- Good physical condition

DIVING CONDITIONS IN CANCÚN
Water temperature 26°C–29°C year-round. Visibility 15–25 meters on average. Best season is year-round, though November–April offers the calmest conditions and July–August is peak season with excellent visibility.
Moderate current on the outer reef line at Punta Cancún; calmer inside the bay and at shallow sites. A 3mm shorty wetsuit is recommended for comfort on multiple dives.
