Try Scuba Diving in Cancún

You are in Cancún. Someone mentions scuba diving. You are curious — but you have never done it before and you are not sure what to expect.

This is exactly what the Try Scuba program is designed for. One day. No prior experience. No certification required. Just you, the ocean, and a certified SSI instructor who will be with you every step of the way.

Here is exactly what happens from the moment you arrive.

What Is Try Scuba Diving?

Try Scuba — also called Discover Scuba Diving — is an introductory program that allows anyone in good health to experience scuba diving without any prior training or certification. It is not a certification course. It is a supervised diving experience designed to be safe, accessible, and genuinely memorable.

At Vision Oceanos, the Try Scuba program takes place entirely in one day and includes two real ocean dives on Cancún’s Caribbean reefs.

The Full Day — Step by Step

10:00 AM — Arrival and Check-In

You arrive at Vision Oceanos, located inside Cancun Bay Hotel at Boulevard Kukulcán Km 3.5 in the Hotel Zone. Our team checks you in, reviews your health questionnaire, and answers any questions you have before the day begins.

10:30 AM — Theory Session

Your certified SSI instructor walks you through the basics: how the equipment works, how to breathe underwater, how to equalize pressure in your ears, and what to do if you feel uncomfortable. This session takes approximately 45 minutes and is conducted in a relaxed, no-pressure environment.

No exams. No memorization. Just the practical knowledge you need to dive safely.

11:30 AM — Shallow Water Practice

Before heading to open water, you practice the fundamental skills in a shallow, controlled environment. You learn to breathe through the regulator, clear your mask, and control your buoyancy. Your instructor stays with you throughout.

This step is what separates a professional program from a rushed tourist experience. You enter the ocean only when you are comfortable and ready.

12:30 PM — Two Ocean Dives

The main event. You board the boat and head to Cancún’s Caribbean reef system for two guided dives, with a maximum depth of 10 meters.

What you will likely see: coral formations, tropical fish, sea turtles, and the vibrant marine ecosystem of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef — the second largest reef system in the world.

Your instructor is in the water with you at all times. Small group. No rushing. Real diving.

Approximately 4:00 PM — Return

You return to the marina. The full experience runs approximately 4 to 5 hours from check-in to return.

Who Can Do Try Scuba?

Anyone in good general health aged 10 and older. You do not need to be a strong swimmer, but basic comfort in the water is helpful.

Participants must not have active asthma, heart conditions, recent surgeries, or other contraindicated medical conditions. A short health questionnaire is completed on arrival. If you have any concerns, contact us before booking via our Scuba FAQ or directly on WhatsApp.

What Happens After?

Many people who do Try Scuba decide they want more. If that is you, the natural next step is the SSI Open Water Diver certification — a 2 to 3 day course that qualifies you to dive independently to 18 meters anywhere in the world.

If you are already certified and looking for guided reef dives, see our Certified Diver Experiences.
