What is the SSI Scuba Diver certification?
The SSI Scuba Diver certification is an internationally recognised entry-level scuba credential. It qualifies you to dive to a maximum depth of 12 metres under the direct supervision of an SSI Professional. At Vision Oceanos in Cancún the program is completed in one day and includes two open water training dives — $295 USD per person.
How long does the SSI Scuba Diver course take in Cancún?
One day. You complete your SSI digital learning online before your scheduled date, then meet your SSI instructor for the briefing and essential safety skills, and make two open water training dives on Cancún’s Caribbean reefs. Your digital certification is issued in the MySSI app after successful completion.
What is the difference between Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver?
Scuba Diver certifies you to 12 metres, always accompanied by a dive professional, and takes one day ($295 USD). Open Water Diver certifies you to 18 metres and lets you dive with a certified buddy without professional supervision, over 3–4 days ($395 USD). The training you complete as a Scuba Diver counts toward upgrading to Open Water Diver later.
What are the requirements to take the SSI Scuba Diver program?
No previous scuba certification is required. You must be at least 10 years old, complete the SSI digital learning before the activity, complete the SSI medical questionnaire (medical clearance may be required), and have basic swimming ability and comfort in the water. Minors need parent or legal guardian authorization.
What is included in the $295 USD price?
Two open water training dives, full scuba equipment, your SSI certified instructor, boat and crew, water on board, small groups, and your SSI digital certification with processing. Wetsuit rental (+$10 USD) and the marine park conservation fee (+$10 USD) are always extra.
